Tuesday October 27th Hallam FC Under 19’s 3 - 3 Sheffield FC Under 18’s B
The old rivalry was ignited again last night as the two oldest clubs played each other. Another opportunity for the lads to gain some experience playing at a higher level and under flood light. Sandygate is not the easiest of grounds to play at due to the sloop. But it did not affect either of the teams. Sheffield Started the first ten minutes on the back foot. After that Sheffield got into their rhythm of playing some good football done the right from Sam Heliwell and Danny Wilson, creating some great chances for Stephen Shaw and Dave Cliff. Sheffield did have a couple of one on ones with Hallam’s Goalkeeper, but did not take their chances. The first goal came from a Sheffield mistake from the goal kick , Dan Costello passed it short to Dan Wilson but the Hallam player got in front and passed it across goal for a easy tap in for the striker. Against the run of play Sheffield were 1 nil down. Straight away from kick off Sheffield showed their intent and muscled their way back into the game some great midfield work from Ash Gray, James Schofield and Jamie Russell , as they won the ball and played it the majority of times. Sheffield equalised from a excellent finish from Dave cliff which he slotted passed the keeper. 1-1 Just before half time Sheffield were caught napping, from a quick throw Hallam crossed the ball in and scored a easy header. 2-1 Hallam at halftime. Sheffield at halftime made changes, as we promised to give all the lads a minimum 45 minute run out. Going up the hill Sheffield struggling for the first 5 minutes and it showed as Hallam went and scored a third goal from a corner. After that it was all Sheffield. The lads showed true guts and character wining every header and 50/50. Sheffield got a goal back from some individual brilliance from Joe Marshall down the left, he cut back on his right and slotted it past the keeper from 20 yards. Sheffield were on high and was looking for the win. Sheffield made a couple more subs which changed the game, bringing on Danny Wilson into centre midfield giving us some fresh legs and needed byte in midfield. Sheffield looked in control of the game and some fine saves from Hallam Goalkeeper keep them in the game. Hallam couldn’t handle the pressure no more and some one two from sam Barnsley, steven shaw and danny Wilson who finshed off a great pass into the top corner. 3-3. Sheffield was in control. Sheffield couldn’t find a fourth. Final Score Hallam U19’s 3-3 Sheffield U18's B From the game it showed that lads can play against the better sides in Sheffield and also showed that there is some real quality in the squad, just hope we can bring it together on Sunday in a tough cup game vs Rawmarsh.
