Under 10’s prove ... It's Cheaper by the dozen ...

Under 10's came away as the AFC hero's of the weekend with a brace of wins and more than a dozen goals!

SAT 6th March

KIVETON PARK 2 v AFC DRONFIELD 8

In the first game it was a fairly scrappy affair with not much fluency to the match but AFC Dronfield still managed to get to 3 – 1 in front with goals from Lawson Staley, Will Roberts and Jack Turner.
The second match saw AFC take total control and apply the normal standard of superb flowing football. Devrim Sacmacioglu got his first goals of the season with 2 headers. The other goals came from Bradley Thompson, Edward Marsden and Jack Leversidge. Final Score in the end 8 -2 overall

AFC DRONFIELD 6 v ECCLESALL RANGERS 4

The lads got off to a really slow start and quickly found themselves 3 – 0 down in the first game. However after half time in that match Edward Marsden came off the bench to score a superb hat trick. Those goals and Charlie Benn’s strike ensured we were 4 – 3 up at the end of the first match – an incredible performance from the lads.
In the second match 2 close range Jack Leversidge goals after fluent approach play and one in reply from Ecclesall saw us take another 3 points. Well done again boys.

Beighton Magpies  5 -  2  AFC Dronfield

AFC U9’s were the first casualties (but not the last) this week, with the blow dealt away by Beighton Magpies.  U9’s won the first game with Lewis Copley-Dunn claiming both AFC goals.  The second session was a different story however with the home side going down four on a pitch that became virtually unplayable - It was condemned after the game as unplayable for the following game.  Management awarded Man of the Match honours to Jack Beach and Luca Purse respectively for their efforts in the trenches.

AFC Dronfield  2  -  2  Killamarsh Dynamo's

U12’s managed a draw at home to Killamarsh Dynamos.  Normally soar-away winners U12’s, struggled against relegation-zone Killamarsh to come away with just a point as consolation.  The result left the AFC U12’s side just three points above their fourth place rivals, Abbey Lane, in the promotion race with some trying fixtures still left to play.

AFC Dronfield 2  -  4  Charnock Ridgeway

AFC U13’s made heavy work of their meeting with Charnock Ridgeway at home.  Charnock opened the scoring, but AFC struck back a minute later with a neat chip from Liam Goodall outwitting the Charnock keeper.  The score remained level until just before half time when a dual blow: an AFC own-goal coupled with another from Charnock, culminated in a 3 - 1 deficit.  AFC regrouped and at times displayed some fine play, but chances went awry and even a last minute goal from Harry Huddart couldn’t keep the home side from their 3rd straight defeat.

AFC Dronfield  2  -  1  Darley Dale

U14’s Rowsley faired well this weekend at home to Darley Dale in a rare ray of footballing-sunshine this weekend.  A game of two evenly matched teams, the visitors opened the scoring, however a superb lob from Tom Miles soon put things all square for the AFC boys.  With just 10 minutes to play, Jake Crookes claimed the winner, with Ryan Perry making Man of the Match for his consistent work in defense.

Sheffield FC U18's C  3  -  7  Aston

Unfortunately even though asked to start quicker prior to the KO SFC found themselves 1-0 down after 2 minutes and the ball had never made the Aston half.
Although SFC then got into there rhythm it could have easily been 2-0 but for a good save from keeper Ben Raynes.  Then from a superbly struck free kick by Danny Middleton, Alex Jones out jumped the defence of Aston to Level the scores.  Then a bit of history Danny Middleton who has played for the team since the age of 9 took another superb free kick from the left and curled the ball into the Aston Net, his first goal in over 4 years.  Minutes later it was 2-2 as Aston equalised all this and only 17 minutes played.  Aston then scored a third and just before half time they scored what can only be described as a farcical goal, where the ball was pushed on to the cross bar then headed back on to the top of the crossbar where it bounced more than once before coming down over the line. Half Time 2-4 to Aston.
Although the teams retired to the changing room and strong words where said there was little improvement from SFC in the second half and Aston continued to play hard but fair football.
The final score was 3-7 with Josh Hector scoring SFC’s third.

This team seem to have lost there way and it’s a shame as they have some good players but it would appear very little self belief. A long post match meeting took place between the coach and the players and the writer can only hope that for there sake they can bring the good football back that we all know they can deliver.
