Sunday March 21st
AFC Dronfield 4 - 5 Bramley Sunnyside
Match 1 lost 3-5.
Having gone 2 down in the first few minutes AFC looked to be up against it against a side who had scored 13 last time the teams met. However, AFC turned in possibly their best performance of the season as they battled away for the full 40 minutes which saw William Rowbotham complete his hat-trick with virtually the last kick of the game. The game had not started well with two soft goals being shipped and Tom Harrison limping out of the game with a twisted knee. Vineet Bhachoo was drafted in as emergency centreback and he proceded to give a MOM display winning many 50/50s alongside James Tattersall. Having gone 0-2 down AFC gave as good as they got and Will scored is first goal just before halftime after a shot by Luca Purse was parried by the keeper. Into the second half and AFC had several breaks but opportunities to pass to teammates were not taken as chances went a begging and a coupe of fine strikes from Bramley saw them 4-1 up. AFC continued to contest the midfield with strong performances from Wesley Atougou and Louis Hawksworth, and it was no suprise when Will scored his second. Into the last minute and Bramley scored their fifth but immediatley from the kick-off Will broke to complete his hat-trick with an emphatic finish.
MOM jointly Vineet Bhachoo and William Rowbotham.
Match 2 won 1-0
A fantastic defensive display saw the second team record a clean sheet as a MOM performance from James Sayles, together with a return to form for Chris Hardy saw Adam Dilly only having to deal with a string of long shots from the Bramley forwards. At the other end the Bramley keeper had another good game, bravely saving at Curtis Fairest's feet after a great through ball by Lewis Copley-Dunn. Into the second half and AFC finally got the breakthrough as a freekick from Jack Beach was flicked into the net by Rowan Spinks. Despite having several more chances AFC could not score the crucial second goal and Bramley hung-on to claim the match 5-4.
MOM James Sayles.

AFC Dronfield 1 - 3 Ecclesfield Red Rose
Game 1 lost 0-1
Another last minute goal consigned AFC to an undeserved defeat as slack marking at a corner saw the ball glanced in at the near post. For the previous 39 minutes a new look AFC side had more than held their own as the defensive pair of James Sayles and Chris Hardy protected Regan Needham in goal who hardly had a save to make. Most of the action took place in the centre of the park as the match swung back and forth without any real chances being created. When AFC did finally breach the Ecclesfield defense Lewis Copley-Dunn was foiled by a fantastic save by the keeper and then steered his follow-up just wide with keeper beaten. Praise must go the all the boys in the midfield who all ran themselves into the ground, Alex Dunkley, Jack Beach, Elliot Garner, Curtis Fairest and MOM Rowan Spinks.
Game 2 lost 1-2
Another tight game which could have gone either way saw Ecclesfield quickly two up, at which point AFC stared to play some great football and carve out several chances. Some good flowing moves involving Elliot Hester, Luca Purse and Joseph Lawson saw AFC come close with a couple of goalline clearences helping to preserve the Ecclesfield lead. Meanwhile at the other end it took some brave goalkeeping by Louis Hawksworth combined with a great goalline clearence from James Tattersall to keep the score at 0-2 at halftime. The second half saw AFC shuffle their line-up and begin to push further forward as they chased the game. Adam Dilly playing out of goal and Vineet Bhachoo kept the Ecclesfield attackers quiet and finally AFC broke through as William Rowbotham latched onto the ball on the edge of the box and smashed a shot past the keeper. MOM award went to Wesley Atougou for another fine all round performance which was capped off by a fantastic header from an Ecclesfield free-kick, which was heading towards the top corner until he leapt and headed it out from under the bar.

AFC Dronfield 2 - 5 Heeley Boys
Match 1 0-5
Heeley fielded a strong first team who scored with only 60 seconds played and gradually wore down AFC on a heavy energy sapping pitch. The game was punctuated by a lot of injuries with Luca Purse, Tom Harrison and Rowan Spinks all hobbling off at some point although none of the knocks was too serious. Adam Dilly again played well in difficult goal-keeping conditions and William Rowbotham led the line with a strong performance up front which he almost capped with a goal as he beat the keeper to a long ball only the pull his shot just wide on the slide.
MOM William Rowbotham
Match 2 2-0
AFC started the game strongly with Lewis Copley-Dunn, Vineet Bhachoo and Wesley Atougou pushing Heeley back and it was from Lewis's neat chip over the defence that CURTIS FAIREST got in front of the keeper to score. At the other end Regan Needham showed great bravery several times diving at the feet of onrushing strikers but with James Sayles and Jame Tattersall mopping up most of Heeley's attacks AFC were to go on and record a well deserved clean sheet. AFC doubled their lead in the second half when the keeper failed to hold a shot and ALEX DUNKLEY was first to the rebound to score at the second attempt. Given the fantastic effort all the boys put in it was impossible to pick just one MOM and after a quick raid of the tuck-shop all 8 were chosen for a well deserved joint award.
MOM All 8 players - scorers Curtis Fairest & Alex Dunkley.

AFC Dronfield 2 - 5 Crosspool
1st game 4-1
After lengthy pitch inspections todays game kicked off on time, but unfortunately AFC were yards off the pace for the first 5 minutes, possibly due to playing 1 game in the 10 previous weeks, and they swiftly fell 3-0 behind. From that point on though AFC gave as good as they got and Elliot Garner got AFC on the board just before half-time. The highlights of the second half were two penalty saves by Regan Needham as the ref harshly penalised some protective raised arms in the AFC box. Crosspool added one more long range strike but AFC matched them across the park with hard working midfield performances from Wesley Atougou and Luca Purse helping to stem the tide of Crosspool attacks.
MOM Regan Needham
2nd game 1-1
With Jack Beach limping off with an ankle injury with just 1 minute played AFC put up a fine showing, with William Rowbotham hitting the post in the last minute with a strike that would have won the game. In between times some dogged defending from Tom Harrison and Chris Hardy, coupled with another fine performance between the sticks from Adam Dilly kept Crosspool at bay. Going forwards Rowan Spinks had a fine game and it was from his corner that Louis Hawksworth scored AFC's goal.

Sunday November 15th
Maltby Juniors 7 - 0 AFC Dronfield
U9’s
CUP
‘U9s go out of the Cup
after 2 battling performances’
Following a great win in the previous round, AFC faced
Maltby Juniors hoping to continue their progress in the Cup. In the first game
AFC made a strong start, looked lively and a match for their opponents who came
into this game with an unbeaten record.
AFC defended well and with Jack Beech running tirelessly in
midfield and Lewis Copley-Dunn tying up well with Elliot Hester, AFC were
looking to take the lead. However
neither side were able to break the deadlock and at the half-time whistle the
game remained goalless.
Although the 2nd half started evenly, eventually
the home side found the net and added 3 more before the final whistle. Some
fine goalkeeping from Adam Dilly kept the goal-hungry home side from adding to
their total. Maltby winning the first game 4-0.
AFC Man of the Match – Adam Dilly
In the 2nd match again AFC started with purpose
with the defence holding the home side at bay until a run of good moves with
good passing and interplay resulted in Maltby scoring 3 goals. Overall AFC put
in a good team effort with Wesley Atougou and Rowan Spinks covering lots of
ground.
The team fought to the final whistle but an able and
sporting Maltby Juniors side progressed to the next round of the Cup with a 3-0
victory, which could have been more but for some fine saves and bravery from
Regan Needham in goal. AFC Dronfield wish Maltby good luck and hope they go on
to win it!
AFC Man of the Match – Regan Needham
Although the match was lost, the signs are still there of a
much improved team from last season and AFC U9s will be looking forward to
getting back to winning ways next weekend.
