AFC Dronfield 0 - 4 Killamarsh Dynamo's
AFC Dronfield under 11's put in a stronger performance than last week, as usual being led by example by Man of the Match Charlie Bird who never stopped running and tackling. AFC were on top for most of the 1st half. Josh Elfleet and James Lawson causing problems for Killamarsh but AFC were unable to turn procession into goal, and three brake away goals in the first half meant that when AFC turned around to play uphill and in to the wind it was always going to be a struggle. In the second half AFC performed even better, with Toby Middleton as stand in goal keeper doing an excellent job, Jonathan Ford and Josh Wragg resolute in defence and Joe Cuffling and Tariq Smith causing problems for the Killamarsh defence.

AFC Dronfield 1 - 11 Redferns
AFC Dronfield came up against league leaders Redferns at Gosforth fields and despite a resolute performance from AFC, redferns showed their class and why they are unbeaten in the League,
Redferns started at pace with fluent passing moves and were two up within 5 minutes. AFC then responded and began to play football but a quick break by Redferns led to a third goal. AFC were still threatening going forward and a number of times great passing moves opened up the Redferns defence, and eventually a great move, started by Charlie Bird, a great cross from Josh Elfleet and calmly finished by Tariq Smith brought the score back to 1 - 3. However Redferns showed their strength and scored two more before half time.
Playing uphill in the second half AFC were nearly always under pressure, although they always looked dangerous going forward with Thomas Asquith and Joe Cuffling causing the Redferns defence problems, Despite battling performances from Jonny Ford and Cameron Burke at the back and Charlie Bird in the middle they were unable to to withstand the pressure and Redferns eventually ran out comfortable winners, 1 - 11.

Killamarsh Dynamoes 2 - 1 AFC Dronfield
AFC Dronfield dominated the first half of the game at Killamarsh Dynamoes from the off. Wonderful passing manoeuvres were slicing the Killamarsh defence open with Joe Cuffling, Charlie Bird and James Lawson particularly working well. The constant pressure told on Killamarsh and after about 10 minutes Charlie Bird was brought down on the edge of the Killamarsh box. Charlie then repaid them with a superb curling free kick that flew in to the Killamarsh goal with their keeper having no chance. AFC continued to apply pressure with Killamarsh making the occasional break, one of which led to a scrambled goal to bring Killamarsh level. At half time AFC were still the dominant team and turned round confident that playing downhill in the second half they could seal a victory.
Unfortunately AFC then took their foot off the gas and allowed Killamarsh back in to the game. With this Killamarsh became more and more confident and kept the AFC penalty box under almost constant pressure, without really testing the AFC Keeper. On one attack Killamarsh managed to get in behind the AFC defence and managed to square the ball across the six yard box and their centre forward was on hand to slot the ball home. With 10 minutes left AFC became resurgent, the defence started to move the ball forward and Josh Wragg, in his first season, showed how he is improving all the time, this week playing at left back rather than his normal position in midfield. AFC began to put together some terrific attacks and came close a number of times, especially Liam Skinner.
All in all AFC, against a team much higher in the League, proved that they really have the ability to take on most teams in the league and compete. On another day AFC could have scored 4 or 5 and if they consistently put together 60 minutes like the first half of this game they will beat any team in this league.

Millmoor Juniors 2 - AFC Dronfield 3
AFC Dronfield came out on top of a very competitive game away at Millmoor. AFC started superbly with great attacking moves combining excellent passing and strong tackling, particularly from Charlie Bird and Toby Middleton. Within a few minutes AFC were ahead. Charlie Bird striking a terrific free kick from out side the box that gave the goal keeper no chance. This was followed with an excellent passing move that went involving Josh Elfleet on the right wing crossing in for Joe Cuffling to score. At this point Millmoor had no response to the AFC attacking play and AFC were soon 3 ahead with another great passing move and Man of the Match Joe Cuffling struck a sweet volley for his second of the game. Much of the first half continued in the Millmoor half but eventually they started to get more confident and several attacks were repulsed by a strong AFC defence with Will Hagan and Jonathan Ford holding the line particularly well.
In the second half AFC continued in the same vain with some lovely passing moves, Charlie Bird being dominant in midfield and Joe Cuffling and Tariq Smith causing problems for Millmoor on the left, but AFC just could not convert all the pressure to goals, narrowly missing at least 4 opportunities. With 5 minutes left, for some reason AFC lost concentration and shape and allowed a 4 on 2 attack for Millmoor which they scored from. AFC continued to relax and Millmoor followed up with a second goal. This left a very tense final 2 minutes with Millmoor on the attach and the AFC parents nearly loosing their voices encouraging AFC to give one last effort. It was a relief when the final whistle went and AFC came out with a well deserved win and once again proving that when they play well they are a handful for any team.

Sunday January 24th
AFC Dronfield 1 - 3 Beighton Magpies
In a very tight match AFC Dronfield Under 11's were edged by Beighton Magpies. Beighton Started the stronger but the AFC defence put up stout resistance and despite the first 10 minutes being all Beighton they never looked like scoring. AFC then got into their stride and put together a string of great attacks, passing the ball well, but just missing the finish. The match continued to ebb and flow and at half time it was all square at 0 - 0.
In the second half the end to end play continued until AFC conceded a penalty for pushing which Beighton just managed to score despite Oliver Tattersall in goal getting a hand to it. AFC fought back but then Beighton scored again after a goal mouth scramble as AFC just could not clear the ball. Beighton piled on the pressure and only the exceptional ability of Oliver Tattersall in goal kept AFC in the game. With 15 minutes to go AFC showed real character, came back into the game, and put the Beighton goal under some intense pressure. Eventually, after a lovely passing move, Joe Cuffling scored a cracking goal. The action was then concentrated around the Beighton goal with Thomas Asquith, Charlie Bird and Josh Elfleet all causing problems for Beighton, but AFC just could not turn the pressure in to goals. Eventually, with AFC in all out attack Beighton broke away and scored another goal. The AFC team still did not let their heads go down and with 5 minutes to go it was still mainly AFC on the attack.
When the final whistle blew the Beighton manager made a point of coming over to congratulate AFC on their performance and especially Man of the Match Oliver Tattersall whom the Beighton Manager said had put in the best performance he had seen by a goal keeper in this league.

AFC Dronfield 6 - 3 Milmoor Juniors
On a blustery day at Gosforth Fields, AFC Dronfield played a six point relegation battle with Millmoor. AFC Dronfield started very well, with constant pressure on the Millmoor goal. Good passing and strong tackling eventually told when Tariq Smith finally scored after a tenacious goal mouth scramble. Further pressure in midfield led to Josh Elfleet latching on to a loose ball and putting it away with aplomb. Charlie Bird then stepped up with a lovely solo run following a quick passing interchange with James Lawson, Charlie finishing the move with a fierce shot pass the Millmoor keeper. During the first half the AFC goal rarely looked threatened with a great coordinated effort from the back four and Jonathan Ford standing out with some superb tackling and aggressive heading. In midfield Liam Skinner stood out for a battling and skillful performance, with some great passing that linked the defence to attack beautifully.
In the second half AFC took their foot off the gas a bit and started to let Milmoor back in to the game and despite further goals from Tariq and Josh, Milmoor looked the more threatening side, scoring two goals as the AFC defence started to loose it's shape. AFC still looked a handful going forward, especially Jo Cuffling who Millmoor just could not stop on the left wing. In the last 10 minutes AFC rallied and started to assert themselves again and in the end AFC ran out worthy winners.

Sunday November 8th
Dinnington 3 - 0 AFC Dronfield
A poor first half performance from AFC Dronfield led to Dinnington scoring 3 scrappy goals in the first half, despite AFC playing the better football when going forward, with Joe Cuffling outstanding on the left and Dinnington unable to contain him. AFC were unable to clear their box quickly enough and despite brave goalkeeping from Oliver Tattersall Dinnington were able to gain a three goal lead by half time.
A half time team talk lead to AFC producing a much better performance in the second half but despite having most of the possesion they were unable to convert pressure in to goals. When Dinnington did attack, strong performances from Jonathan Ford at right back and Will Haggin meant that the threat was nullified.

Beighton Magpies 7 - 2 AFC Dronfield
AFC Dronfield started brightly in foul weather conditions at Mosborough, they passed the ball well along the ground and with some nice interplay between the midfield and attack, leading eventually to the first of Josh Elfleet's two goals. Beighton fought back but the defence held up well with Will Haggin and Andreas Mouzakis leading the way. A series of quick passes from defence to Josh Elfleet led to AFC's second goal, but Beighton then pulled one back for the score to be 2 - 1 in AFC's favour at half time. With the turnaround the wind appeared to grow stronger and AFC struggled to get the ball out of their own half as the wind kept blowing the ball back. The defence started to run out of steam and Beighton Magpies gained the upper hand , despite some heroic goalkeeping from Oliver Tattersall. Try as they might AFC could just not get the ball beyond the half way line and eventually Beighton began to turn the pressure in to goals, scoring 6 without answer. The first half of the game followed on from the previous weeks excellent performance and, as the Beighton Manager said to our players, in the end the were beaten by the weather, as much as by the Beighton team.

AFC Dronfield 7 - 3 Thostles JFC
From the first whistle AFC Dronfield started well against Thostles putting their goal under pressure but without being able to convert the territory in to goals. Against the run of play Thostles scored, but AFC came back and were awarded a penalty, calmly despatched by Zach Burns. The game continued to be dominated by AFC but, again against the run of play, Thostles scored and again AFC pulled the goal back. Thostles then scored a third after a goal mouth scramble and at half time Thostles were in the lead.
From the start of the second half, and despite playing uphill, AFC stated there intentions and after a few minutes had levelled the score. Now AFC had the bit between their teeth and started to play the football we know they are capable of. Josh Elfleet made some great runs down the right, Charlie Bird and Zach Burns controlled the midfield and Andreas Mouzakis was dominant in the centre of defence, backed up by some very solid goalkeeping from Oliver Tattersall. AFC continued to dominate, with Thostles still dangerous on the break, but the pressure soon lead to AFC scoring, Thomas Asquith with a superbly taken header, James Lawson and Tariq Smith both showing calm finishing. In the last 5 minutes Thostles began to attack more, but the defence held firm with some solid tackling and the midfield helping out.
AFC Dronfield Scorers : Thomas Asqwith, Charlie Bird, Zach Burns, Josh Elfleet (2), James Lawson and Tariq Smith
Overall this was a tremendous team performance with strong defence, a battling midfield and the entire team showing that they will be a handful for any team in this league.

AFC Dronfield 2 - 6 Stocksbridge Park Steels
Under 11 C Division Leaders Stocksbridge Steelers were visitors at AFC Dronfield today. Despite AFC Dronfield being the underdogs they took an early lead with a superbly worked goal finished well be Zac Burns within the first 5 minutes. Stocksbridge responded by pressing hard but the AFC midfield and defence held up well with some excellent tackling from Toby Middleton and Harrison Birks-Vaughan. Eventually Stocksbridge squeezed in a short range shot to draw level, very much against the run of play. AFC responded well putting the Stocksbridge goal under intense pressure, hitting the crossbar once and were then awarded a free kick on the left side of the pitch about 25 yards out. Captain Charlie Bird stepped up and struck a brilliant shot that flew in to the top of the Stocksbridge goal.
When the teams turned around at half time AFC were 2 - 1 up and much the stronger team but the league leaders began to show why they are at the top of the division with constant pressure that eventually saw a tiring AFC concede one goal, quickly followed by another, as tired legs and the effects of 4 players with colds took their toll. Some brilliant goal keeping from AFC man of the match Oliver Tattersall kept AFC in with a shout but fitness told in the long run. The eventual scoreline of AFC Dronfield 2 - Stocksbridge 6 did not reflect a game in which AFC did themselves credit and showed that the can cause problems for every team in this division and it will not be long before they begin winning games.
